The weight won't affect it at all. You just need to get the setback right. Transom will be fine as long as it's in good shape.

My bad Gary. I'm on the phone with Brett and he set me straight about the 1.71 lower:o You're wrong on the porting though.

Well, this year he has a bone stock 250 HO on it. And I mean bone stock, not even plastic reeds and a factory EMM. The 250 HO does not have the 1.71 lower on it, only the 300 does. And the 07 motor was not "ported" it was within factory specs, with minor other mods. He raced the new motor in Kingston, TN this past weekend. He came in second in River Racer running my 29 Yamaha prop. Once he gets the prop figured out the boat will be VERY FAST. Considering it weighs 1710# I think it ran very well. Considering the boat that won the class was a couple of hundred pounds lighter, well, you figure it out. To top it all off he was giving rides to the press, people from the city, etc.... HERE is a newspaper article about this past weekend.
  4. I've seen 4 now, 2 running. I'll find out this weekend if the newest one out there is out of break in and how it's running when I hi the river. When Dixon's ran last weekend it looked pretty good. But he never did get to make a full pass.

2.7 Merc coming from Taylor Marine?

This motor is completely new. I saw it this past Friay before Wetumpka. Had tp go to Wayne's before Wetumpka to get some heads made. I really want to run one next year in ODBA unlimited.

    question about STV boat

So that one looks like a stock 50ci looper? Sounds like there is some serious potential there. Send me your email and I'll send you all the pics he sent me (quite a few). I've got a question for you too. Joe

    question about STV boat

He sent me about 8 pics, and I'm waiting for a couple more. It ain't no kids boat! He says it will run about 90 but that Formula E Johnson (from what I've been told) only puts out about 60-65 at the shaft. I want it 'cause it'd be like having a Mini Me to my Mirage

MIAMI DAVE GOES 117 IN HIS PRO COMP!

I'd like to get down there for the NC rally but we have a race on the 18th in Plymouth, NC. I need the track time to get ready for Kingston.

Yep, yesterday was about the same as Saturday. I hit 105 a couple of times, but couldn't wring it out. Still had some fun though!

MIAMI DAVE GOES 117 IN HIS PRO COMP!

Well I went out yesterday hoping to match Dave's run but it wasn't gonna happen with all of the idiots out there. Hit 105 a few times but evry time I tried some stinkin wakeboard boat would throw up some big rollers. Gonna try again today.

MIAMI DAVE GOES 117 IN HIS PRO COMP!

I know what your're sayin ER, and I know that right now I'm not quite there yet to win in ODBA. A pass is one thing, a round is a whole nother ball game. I'm at the point where we're close. That;s why a new powerhead is going on for Kingston. That one has turned 9200 many times, and it's not getting screwed with except for a refresh. Since this current motor doesn't seem to like going over 81-8200 most of the time I think that as hard as it pulls from the lights I may be in a much better postion to win with the new 9200 rpm motor. Wayne Taylor really helped me on my setup last weekend and this thing can really launch hard now. A Merc stator & ignition setup was on the boat when I bought it, but I know nothing about it except that it wouldn't turn over 7500. I'm trying to do what needs done, but it's tough when you don't have an assload of money to toss at it. I'm so close to Doc Tripp right now it's pissing me off that I can't get around him. I haven't run Hardin yet, but that boy is really fast. Tony Mayes was really haulin too till he broke at Wetumpka. I think he might have had the fastest boat out there last weekend. I may have the new motor ready when I run the Doc on 18 July at Plymouth. I hope so, so I can see how we're looking for Kinston. And BTW, I should have listened to you over the winter, tossed the carbs, and gone MAD. But doing things the hard way seems to be so much more fun, and I wouldn't be having this grudge match all season with Tony if the carbs were gone. Doing it the hard way is so much more fun....

MIAMI DAVE GOES 117 IN HIS PRO COMP!

Well, I didn't go out today for lack of a spotter boat, so Saturday it is. I've got a great brand new stock ignition I've been wanting to put on a powerhead. Split Rapair no-limit packs, V4 flywheel, etc.. We were running the single pack setup at first and had no problems turning 8600. But that Rapair pack was big bucks. The nice thing about the Yami setup only costs about $600 to do unless you have to have somebody do it for you. It's actually cheaper and easier, and a cleaner installation. And lighter. MSD is about $2500, and I see no advantage for the money. I have an aversion to spending big bucks to do this boat thing too. We started with a block that literally came out of a dumpster. At this point I think I have about 3500 in the powerhead. The only reason it's that high is because I wanted all new sleeves, pistons and bearings.. And that powerhead has won passes in both FBI Pro Lake Racer and ODBA Pro Carb. I agree that you don't need to spend to get a motor that will haul ass.

I heard he's done racing boats for now. That's the rumor.

MIAMI DAVE GOES 117 IN HIS PRO COMP!

Ah Grasshopper, we disagree here. The Yami ignition is preferred by a couple of drag racers I know, and I use it too. 2 of them have had an MSD system and went to Yamaha. I've seen it turn 9200 no problem. Much simpler, much cheaper, and much easier to install. You can use a stock starter too. BTW, I found where my revs went and it wasn't the cowl. Look for an update on this one soon. And my jetting is still pretty far off. I just drilled the idles to 67 (they were at 42), the mids are still at 14. I think I'm going to have to drill the idles more, and meaybe lean the mids a little too. The mains are gonna stay where they are for a while. I spent a lot of time talking to Wayne Taylor at the Wetumpka race. The Madman gave me some great advice on boat setup, he really helped with the way I launch the boat. He tossed out a few more tips I'm gonna work on also. I may go out this afternoon and do a speed run. If not I'm going to on Saturday. Gonna try and turn the 32 to at least 117!
