Finger ports- what are they & what do they do?

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit clueless about finger ports as well as many others may be. So let's here the complete "theory" on them along with some pictures too! Also if one would mod the ports what effect does that have on performance.

And yes I'm still kickin' but just been quiet lately.

A "finger" port is a port cut through the side of the piston and/or the sleeve in order to allow more air and fuel into the cylinder.

These are hand made boost ports, and serve the same purpose. (The boost ports are the 3 smaller ports opposite the exhaust ports in the cylinder.) Few engines had these in them from the factory - placing them "behind the liner" or sleeve (and casting them into the block) allows for a better port shape and no weakening of the piston and sleeve.
